Playlist: Movie Tracks

The music played in movies is crucial to the impact of single scenes, and as part of the soundtrack, some songs even become as popular as the movie itself. Here is a selection of some of the best tracks featured in movies over the past sixteen years.

Jack White & Alicia Keys – Another Way To Die
The epic theme song of the 22nd James Bond film Quantum of Solace.

The Verve – Bitter Sweet Symphony
Thanks to the movie Cruel Intentions, the British band The Verve made their international breakthrough with this song.

Pixies – Where Is My Mind
Front man Black Francis was inspired by scuba diving in the Caribbean when he wrote this track, which was used in the impressive final scene of Fight Club.

Muse –Supermassive Black Hole
Different from all other Muse songs, Supermassive Black Hole made it onto the soundtrack of the 2008 vampire romance Twilight, featured in the baseball game sequence.

Smash Mouth – All Star
One of the group’s most successful songs was used in the first Shrek movie.

Nancy Sinatra – Bang Bang
Originally sung by pop icon Cher, Nancy Sinatra’s version of the song Bang Bang is featured in the opening scenes of Kill Bill Volume 1.

Belle and Sebastian – Piazza, New York Catcher
Since music plays a big role in the movie Juno, it is not surprising that the soundtrack itself was also very successful, including catchy indie pop songs like Piazza New York Catcher.

The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition
Played during two scenes in the movie (500) Days Of Summer, the song underlines well the bittersweet love story between the main characters.
