Since most people don’t fancy cooking when they’re on vacation, travelling offers the perfect opportunity to seek out the best restaurants and experience the most delicious and extraordinary dishes in town. Our employees reveal their favourite restaurants in the MEININGER cities. Bon appétit!
Corinna Frese, HR Coordinator
Favourite restaurant: Hannekes Boom, Dijksgracht 4, 1019 BS Amsterdam
Style: Burger/European cuisine.
Favourite dish: Burger with onion confit and French fries.
Special tip: Hannekes Boom is a beer garden, restaurant and concert venue rolled into one. There’s live music covering the genres of rock, jazz and folk – so check out the calendar. Every week, there’s a new menu card with seasonal specials.
Markus Möritz, Art Director
Favourite restaurant: Clärchens Ballhaus, Auguststr. 24 Berlin 10117 Berlin
Style: Good Italian-Mediterranean cuisine at a fair rate. Special feature: the large outside serving area. I happily return to this wonderful Berlin classic year after year. With its gloomy charm, it still has a bit of the atmosphere of the Berlin punk of the 90s.
Favourite dish: Chanterelle salad and cutlets of water buffalo from the region.
Special tip: The dance evenings are legendary. Every night of the week there’s a different rhythm to accompany your groovy moves as you sway the night away. The atmosphere is unbeatable – and who knows for how much longer, so make sure to visit soon!
Marinko Grgic, Senior Receptionist
Favourite restaurant: Vai Vai, Grüneburgweg 16, 60322 Frankfurt am Main
Style: Rustic Italian food combined with urban industrial design and, of course, a laid back and lively atmosphere.
Favourite dish: Rib eye steak (300g) with homemade wedges.
Special tip: Vai Vai has a place for every need: three different areas with bar, restaurant and lounge. You can stop by with a couple of friends or with a larger group of people.
Pia Kuhn, Junior Operations Manager
Favourite restaurant: Bodhi – Vegan Restaurant and Bar, Ligsalzstraße 23, 80339 Munich
Style: Vegan and traditional Bavarian food.
Favourite dish: The Bodhi Pfanderl – a soy steak in crispy coating served with dumplings, red cabbage and apple garnish and a sauce made from local dark beer.
Special tip: Make sure you save space for a dessert when you visit. The restaurant belongs to a former MEININGER employee and has a large selection of whiskies, plus every night at 10pm there’s a happy hour on cocktails.
Sebastian Kiy, Junior Operations Manager
Favourite restaurant: Bärenwirt, Müllner Hauptstraße 8, 5020 Salzburg
und M32, Am Mönchsberg 32, 5020 Salzburg
Style: Bärenwirt offers regional specialities that are typical Austrian. They offer the best fried chicken in town.
M32 offers international trends in lifestyle and catering.
Favourite dish: oven-fresh Bierschopfbratl with bread dumpling in “bear”-size and sauerkraut or half fried chicken with potato and lamb’s lettuce salat.
Special tip: M32: Tuesday till Friday a business lunch with a starter and a dessert) is offered for 16 Euro. The restaurant is near the museum of modern art, so why not visit it before dinner?
Try to get a table on the terrace. You will have a great view over the city.
