Rixdorf, Neul\u00f6lln – the real old Berlin<\/span> <\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Neuk\u00f6lln, everybody\u2019s talking about Neuk\u00f6lln. It\u2019s so cool there, with so many great caf\u00e9s, the Tempelhofer Feld, and then this rocking flair. Yes, Neuk\u00f6lln is cool, we can agree on that. But it\u2019s not just cool because of its trendy areas, but also because of its history. Neuk\u00f6lln used to be a village called Rixdorf. And that\u2019s where it all started. We don\u2019t want to bore you with a history lesson, but Rixdorf, Neuk\u00f6lln (also known as B\u00f6hmisch Rixdorf) doesn\u2019t just exist in dusty old history books. Rixdorf was founded in 1737 and can still be seen today, around Richardplatz.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s hard to believe that you\u2019re actually still in Neuk\u00f6lln<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

So clean, so green, beautiful houses; it\u2019s almost as if you have arrived in a small city. You can find lots of well-maintained historical buildings here. For example, the 400-year-old blacksmith\u2019s workshop or the Bethlehemskirche church. The Comenius Garten is also worth a visit. Take some time to wander around the streets and alleyways of Rixdorf. That\u2019s probably not what you expected from Neuk\u00f6lln.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When hunger strikes, we have two recommendations for you: the rustic Villa Rixdorf <\/span>http:\/\/www.villa-rixdorf.com\/villa\/geschichte.html), <\/span>which offers hearty German cuisine, which you are welcome to enjoy in the courtyard on the premises. Alternatively, you can visit the beautiful Hallmann & Klee <\/span>(<\/span>https:\/\/www.hallmann-klee.de<\/span>\/<\/span><\/a>), a great little spot that is particularly good for breakfast. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/span>Twice the high life at Richardplatz<\/span> <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rixdorf is where it\u2019s happening twice a year; once in late summer and once in winter.  In September, the people come together for a crazy spectacle. As part of the \u201cPopr\u00e1ci\u201d race, competitors push huge bales of straw around the square with all their might. It\u2019s really very entertaining. A few months later, in December, it\u2019s time for contemplation. During the second weekend of Advent, and only that weekend, the square hosts the traditional Christmas Market, which is primarily intended to support charitable institutions. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can see that Rixdorf, Neuk\u00f6lln has a lot to offer. Whenever you end up visiting this historical part of the city, it\u2019s just a few metres\u2019 walk until you\u2019re back in the bustling Neuk\u00f6lln, between Sonnenallee and Karl-Marx-Stra\u00dfe. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
