Here\u2019s what\u2019s changing, why it\u2019s happening, and what it means for your stay at MEININGER Hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is VAT on accommodation increasing in the Netherlands?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dutch government has announced that the reduced VAT rate of <strong>9%<\/strong> for accommodation will be discontinued. The goal is to simplify the tax system and strengthen public finances. As a result, <strong>hotel stays, campsites, and short-stay accommodation<\/strong> will move to the <strong>standard VAT rate of 21%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcc5 <strong>When?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The change applies from January 1, 2026 onwards.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does this mean for you as a hotel guest?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From January 1, 2026, accommodation in Amsterdam will be taxed at <strong>21% VAT instead of 9%<\/strong>.
