In the borough of Neuhausen-Nymphenburg the hotel group MEININGER has opened its second property in the city of Munich. The MEININGER Hotel Munich Olympiapark has 172 rooms and 822 beds and is centrally located at the ring road (‘Mittlerer Ring’) near the Olympic Park. With the opening, the company is strengthening its presence in Bavaria’s state capital.

The hotel group MEININGER has extended its hospitality offering in Munich with a second hotel. The new accommodation is located at Landshuter Allee 174 and emerges from a former office building. Extensive renovations created space for 172 rooms and public areas with an individual design concept as well as an underground car park with over 80 parking lots. The gross floor area of the 8-storey building covers 12,382 sqm.

"We are running our first hotel in Munich, the MEININGER Hotel München City Center on Landsberger Strasse, with great success for 15 years now. The bed occupancy rate of 87 percent for the financial year 2018 is the best proof that our hybrid concept works very well in Munich. With the gained knowledge of the past years, we are pleased to open a second hotel in the city and welcome more guests to MEININGER," says Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels.

The interior design of the MEININGER Hotel Munich Olympiapark takes up the dynamics and fast pace of the city. The design team focused on high-quality materials, functional design as well as on a color and shape concept which unites all floors into one vibrant, urban network. "Munich is no longer just the capital of Bavarian cosiness. The city developed a powerful, bustling dynamic. The interior design concept of the hotel translates this euphoric flair into a facility full of energy and motion," states Spanring.

Like most MEININGER hotels, the property at the Olympic Park offers a 24-hour guest kitchen, a game zone and a flexible room structure which responds to a diverse guest mix and varying needs. Travellers can choose between single and double rooms as well as private dorm rooms and dormitories. “Our highest principle is that our guests feel at ease when staying with us. The public spaces with a clear focus on multifunctionality and design create places of social interaction and cosiness at the same time“, emphasizes Spanring.

"This new opening marks the pursuit of our partnership established in 2014 with MEININGER. Through its services, its design and the flexibility of its offer, the MEININGER Hotel Munich Olympiapark translates the concept of lifestyle hotels and reinvents the clients’ experience," completes Dominique Ozanne, Deputy CEO at Covivio.

The  MEININGER Hotel Munich Olympiapark is the second project carried out with Covivio, European leader in hotel investment and MEININGER's European development partner. The two partners opened a hotel in Milan last year and are planning two new openings in 2019 in France, Paris and Lyon. MEININGER will operate the hotel at the Olympic Park, owned by Covivio, under a 20-year lease.

The Olympic Park, which offers many events and concerts throughout the year, lies only a short walk away from the MEININGER Hotel Munich Olympiapark. The BMW World, the Nymphenburg Palace and the Leopoldstraße, known for its bar and restaurant culture, lie also within easy reach. The central station and Karlsplatz (Stachus) are about 15 minutes away by public transport. The tram and bus stops Olympiapark West are located in front of the building. The subway station Gern lies within 10 walking minutes. With its central location next to the ring road, transport links to the motorway towards the airport and the exhibition center are guaranteed.

For MEININGER Hotels it is the second opening in 2019. On March 18, the hotel group opened its first hotel in Hungary. With the opening of the MEININGER Hotel Paris Porte de Vincennes this summer, the company will enter the French market.

The hotel group MEININGER Hotels continues its expansion. With the opening of the MEININGER Budapest Great Market Hall, the company has opened up the Hungarian market. The newly built property not far from the Danube promenade is located next to the famous Great Market Hall and has 184 rooms and 751 beds. It is the first of two new market entries planned for 2019. This summer, the hotel group will open its first hotel in France.

The metropolis on the Danube, which is famous for its spa culture, has gained a new lodging property. About 1 km south of the city center on the Pest side lies the prominent, wavy shaped new building of the MEININGER Budapest Great Market Hall made of concrete and glass. With the opening of the seven-storey accommodation building, which covers a total floor area of 6,600 sqm, MEININGER Hotels celebrates their premiere in Hungary.

The interior design is inspired by Hungarian craftsmanship and the neighboring Great Market Hall (Nagy Vásárcsarnok) which counts to one of the most beautiful market halls in Europe with its neo-Gothic architectural style. „Successful hotels create places where anyone can be who they want to be. The interior design helps to integrate the MEININGER Budapest Great Market Hall into its surroundings and invites guests to become a part of the neighborhood,” states Kai Ratschko from the architectural office Ratschko. Together with the inhouse design team of MEININGER Hotels he developed and implemented the locally rooted interior design concept. The public areas such as reception, lobby, breakfast room, lounge and bar are located on the ground floor. The building also offers an underground car park as well as a guest kitchen and a game zone which are both typical for MEININGER Hotels. The rooms on the upper floors offer a balcony with scenic views of the Danube and the Old Town.

"2018 was a record year for the tourism in Hungary. In total, about 31 million overnight stays were recorded. The number of foreign overnight guests rose by 650,000 compared to 2017. Especially the capital city benefits from this increasing demand, which attracts visitors from all over the world with its unique flair and UNESCO sights. We are pleased to welcome guests in this beautiful city from now on at our brand new property," explains Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels.

The new accommodation next to the Great Market Hall welcomes individual, group and business travellers. "Our house is characterized by a particularly flexible room structure. It allows us to respond to a diverse guest mix as well as the varying needs of our guests. They can choose between single and double rooms as well as private dorm rooms and also dormitories. The public areas provide plenty of room for social interaction and reflect the character of the local environment," clarifies Doros Theodorou, CCO of MEININGER Hotels.

The MEININGER Budapest Great Market Hall is located in the Ferencváros district, between the Great Market Hall and the Liberty Bridge. In the immediate vicinity of the building runs the shopping street and promenade Váci utca. It leads from the Great Market Hall to the lively Vörösmarty Square in the middle of the old town of Pest. The two metro stations, each about 400 meters from the property, allow easy access to the sights of the entire city. From the airport, the MEININGER Budapest Great Market Hall is about 40 minutes, the main train station about 10 minutes away by public transport.

Mumbai: December 4th 2018: Cox & Kings owned, MEININGER hotel group announced the signing of an agreement for a hotel in Reykjavik. The property is located on Vesturbaer district in Reykjavik, which is close to the city centre and the Harpa concert hall. The opening is scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.

The MEININGER Hotel will be accommodated in the iconic JL House, a famous 1940s warehouse, and will be completely modernised to meet MEININGER’s latest standards.

The hotel will have a gross floor area of 5,500 square meters. The 122 rooms and 442 beds will be spread over 5 floors. The room types will range from classic double rooms to private multi-bed-rooms through to a bed in a dorm. The public areas such as reception, lobby, lounge, bar and breakfast room as well as the guest kitchen and games zone, which are typical features of a MEININGER, will be located on the ground floor of the building. Iceland is the fastest growing market in Europe. In 2017, about 2.2 million tourists visited the country (fivefold increase compared to 2010), which is about six times the permanent resident population of the country. The rapid-fire growth made Reykjavik having the highest market-wide occupancy in Europe.

The main reason for visiting Iceland is its natural attractions, but Reykjavik is an equally popular tourist destination, as it has lots to offer like numerous museum and hosts many events and festivals.   Due to the relatively small size of Iceland, many attractions and popular activities can be reached and completed in a day, making day trips from Reykjavik very popular.

Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, highlights the strategic importance of the agreement: “I’m very pleased, with the project in Reykjavik as it expands our geographical reach and provide options to our guests.’’

“Reykjavik increased its significance as a hub between Europe and North America in the past years, also because the accessibility by air greatly improved. The major share of visitors is leisure tourists coming from both of these continents. Looking at the Iceland tourism market, we expect to host the typical mix of MEININGER guests, individual travellers like backpackers as well as groups and a small number of business travellers,’’ stated Doros Theodorou, CCO of MEININGER Hotels.

Next year MEININGER will enter two further important new markets with the opening of a hotel in Budapest and a hotel in Paris.

On 14th September MEININGER Hotels have opened their sixth hotel in Berlin. With this new addition, the hotel group is expanding its presence in the capital to a total of 1143 rooms and 3615 beds. The MEININGER Hotel Berlin Tiergarten is located on the Stromstraße, on the corner of Turmstraße in the district of Moabit, and is part of Berlin's newest shopping center, the Schultheiß-Quartier.

The 238 modern equipped rooms and 847 beds are spread over 4 floors. As is typical for a MEININGER hotel, the room types range from classic double rooms to private shared rooms through to a bed in a dorm. All public areas, such as the reception, lobby, lounge, breakfast room and bar as well as the guest kitchen and game zone, which are all typical features of a MEININGER, are located on the first floor of the building.

The underground stations Turmstraße and Birkenstraße are located next to the hotel and the Tiergarten, Berlin's largest and most popular park, is within walking distance of the MEININGER.

The interior design of the MEININGER Hotel Berlin Tiergarten is inspired by the Moabit district and reflects the history of the Schultheiß-Quartier. The former brewery building was built at the time of the Industrial Revolution- its brick facades and chimneys are still reminiscent of this time. The same applies to the materials used in the interior design, which are interpreted in a modern way throughout the hotel. Metal pipes and panels are combined with wooden elements and cosy fabric elements. The words "More urban, a bit industrial" are emblazoned on the walls. A modern seating area in the lobby has the Silhouette of Moabit and the carpet in the hallways shows part of the district from a bird's eye view. "It was important to us to integrate the history of the building and district of Moabit into the design of the hotel. The integration of the hotels location into its interior design is part of our concept. We want to create a place with an individual personality and local connection that appeals equally to our different types of guests, inspires them and introduces them to the hotel's surroundings." says Doros Theodorou CCO of MEININGER Hotels. "In our sixth MEININGER Hotel in Berlin, we also expect a colourful mix of guests from groups, backpackers, families, business travellers and city tourists." continues Theodorou.

Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, is very pleased about the new addition "We opened two more hotels in Berlin within not even one year and are now represented with a total of six hotels in the German capital, MEININGER's home town. This is a great development that I am very happy about. Berlin is still a very popular travel destination for tourists from all over the world, in 2018 the city again records growing tourist numbers."

The opening of the newest MEININGER hotel will be followed by many more throughout Europe, as the hotel group is constantly expanding. "The MEININGER Hotel Berlin Tiergarten is already the fifth hotel we opened this year. We were able to expand our portfolio already from 19 to 24 hotels in 2018. Contracts for 13 other hotels have already been signed and we are constantly looking for new projects not only in Europe but also in North America and Asia." Hannes Spanring continues.

On July 30th, the MEININGER Hotel Group opened a further house in Milan. The new addition comprises a total of 131 rooms and 475 beds and is located directly on Piazza Monte Titano opposite the Lambrate train station. It is already the third hybrid accommodation of the MEININGER Group in Italy.

The MEININGER Milano Lambrate is located in a former office building which was converted into a MEININGER. The 131 modern rooms and 475 beds are spread over 8 floors and all have a private bathroom and air conditioning. The room types range from classic double rooms to private shared rooms through to a bed in a dorm. All public areas, such as the reception, lobby, lounge, breakfast room and bar as well as the guest kitchen and game zone, which are all typical features of a MEININGER, are located on the ground floor and basement of the building.

As inspiration for the design of the MEININGER Milano Lambrate served the "Lambretta" scooter, which was once developed and manufactured in Milan. Named after the Lambrate district, where the company was based, the Lambretta became also part of the MEININGER. A total of three scooters of various model series are exhibited here. "The theme holistically runs through the entire interior design of the building," says Doros Theodorou, CCO of MEININGER Hotels. Pictures of the legendary scooter decorate the walls of the public areas, the lobby is designed like a showroom and the breakfast room like a workshop. Here and there guests can discover exciting details of the time when the Lambretta was part of the typical cityscape of Milan. Also in the rooms and hallways guests encounter the sympathetic vehicle.

"This is how our guests experience Milan from a different angle already in the accommodation.", continues Theodorou. "This is part of the MEININGER concept. We want to surprise our guests and give them the opportunity to experience a facet of the city away from the typical attractions. This is interesting and exciting for all our guests, whether it's backpackers, groups, families or business travellers.".

Thanks to its close proximity to Lambrate train station the MEININGER Milano Lambrate is well connected to the public transport network. It's the perfect base to easily explore the city. To Milan Cathedral and La Scala it's just 15 minutes.

Hannes Spanring CEO of MEININGER Hotels is very pleased about the opening of the MEININGER Milano Lambrate: "This is already the third MEININGER which has opened in Italy within a short period of time. At the end of last year, we entered a completely new market with the opening of the first MEININGER in Milan near the Garibaldi train station, and now, eight months later, we already operate three MEININGERs in Italy. All three properties are a great addition to our portfolio, as Italy's major cities are popular destinations for people from all over the world for many reasons." In addition to the two houses in Milan, the MEININGER Group opened its first MEININGER in Rome this May.

The MEININGER Group continues to expand. Two more hotels will open this year, one in Budapest and one in Berlin. Twelve further projects are currently under development.

Since 28th of May the MEININGER group operates its first hotel in Russia. The MEININGER Hotel St. Petersburg Nikolsky offers a total of 158 rooms and is located in the heart of St. Petersburg in the former Nikolsky market halls on Sadovaya Street.

The hotel represents MEININGER's first ever hotel-hostel hybrid in Russia. MEININGER operates the hotel under a management contract. VIYM, a private equity firm, which specialises in growth capital and hospitality investments across Russia, CIS and Europe, acted as a professional consultant on the Nikolskiye Ryady development project.

The MEININGER Hotel St. Petersburg Nikolsky covers a total area of 7300 sqm. The 158 rooms are spread over 2 floors and range from classic double rooms to multi-bed rooms, which are perfect for families and groups. All public areas such as the reception, lobby, lounge, breakfast room and bar as well as the guest kitchen and games zone, which are typical features of a MEININGER hotel, are located on the ground floor of the building.

The interior design of the hotel developed by the Swedish design studio Lundwall Architects is based on a distinctive theme specific to the local area. "This is how our guests discover interesting and surprising facets of the city already in the hotel." says Doros Theodorou, CCO of MEININGER hotels. At the MEININGER Hotel St. Petersburg Nikolsky, several specific features of the city as well as the market hall itself served as inspiration for the interior design. The "Golden Triangle" is reflected in the form of an artful installation on the ceiling of the gallery passage. In the hallways of the hotel guests come across the "White Nights" and immerse themselves in a play of light and shadow. In the breakfast room, the history of the market hall is taken up, which in the past, among other things, housed an enamel factory. The material is used decoratively on the walls of the room. "The unique local character is an essential part of our interior design in all MEININGER hotels. It contributes significantly to the guest experience and creates a connection to the city, which offers numerous attractions. We want to help our guests to discover the city in their preferred way and make the most of their time, be it business travellers, family or individual travellers." continues Theodorou.

Commenting on the opening, VIYM's co-founder Andrey Yakunin said: "The brand new MEININGER Hotel in St. Petersburg is a unique project for the city, responding to the growing demand for low-budget accommodation, which is steadily out-performing other segments in the hotel industry. Due to its simple concept and beautiful location, the hotel is the perfect destination for tourist groups, families, and independent travellers from all over the world, especially during the upcoming FIFA 2018 World Cup. We at VIYM constantly endeavour to explore and introduce new hospitality products in Russia. We work with the leading European and international players, helping them enter this dynamic and exciting, yet challenging, market."

With the opening of the MEININGER Hotel St. Petersburg Nikolsky, the MEININGER Group enters a new market. "We are very excited about the opening of the hotel in St. Petersburg. As the second largest metropolis in Russia and an important cultural centre, St Petersburg is an excellent addition to our portfolio and a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. In 2017, St. Petersburg received the World Travel Award for Europe's Best City Destination. This is a coveted and outstanding award! " says Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels.

"We also have to break new ground in sales and marketing. Russia is an exciting market with a lot of potential and we are now concentrating more strongly on it" says Doros Theodorou.

Thanks to its excellent location it's easy and convenient to explore the wonderful city with its many attractions and cultural attractions from the hotel. Located at one of the many canals that flow through St. Petersburg and characterize the cityscape, guests can start their city tour with a walk along the water. The Mariinsky theatre is within walking distance of the hotel, as well as the Nicholas Naval Cathedral.

MEININGER continues to expand. "In 2018 we are going to open 4 more hotels in Europe and eleven further projects are already under development " continues Hannes Spanring.

With the opening of the MEININGER Rome Termini on April 30th, the MEININGER Group now also operates a hotel in Italy's capital. The hotel offers a total of 118 rooms and 319 beds and is located on Via San Martino della Battaglia, near Termini Station.

The interior design of the hotel is based on a distinctive theme specific to the local area. At MEININGER Rome Termini, guests are taken to the world of film and allowed to take a look behind the scenes. Rome is a movie city, where numerous films were shot, including some popular classics. A nice inspiration for the design of the rooms and public areas. Whether it's director chairs in the rooms, cinema seats and a stage in the lobby, red carpets in the hallways or room numbers in the form of clapperboards, the theme is omnipresent.

Doros Theodorou, CCO of MEININGER Hotels, emphasizes the importance of the theme design "It is important to us that the location of the hotel becomes part of the hotels' individual personality. This allows our guests to already experience the city in the hotel but from a different, surprising or exciting side. That makes our hotels unique and offers an added value to our guests."

The MEININGER Rome Termini is located in an old building which was previously a medical center and was subsequently converted to a MEININGER hotel. The 118 modern rooms are spread over 6 floors. The room types range from classic double rooms and private multi-bed-rooms through to a bed in a dormitory. "The mix of room types is adapted to the demand of our target groups and tailored to the location. We expect the typical mix of MEININGER guests including backpackers, groups, families, individual and business travellers." says Doros Theodorou.

All public areas such as reception, lobby, lounge, breakfast room and bar as well as the guest kitchen and games zone, which are all typical features of a MEININGER hotel, are located on the ground floor and basement of the building.

Located only 500 meters from the main train station Termini, the MEININGER Hotel is perfectly connected to local and long-distance public transport. Its central location makes it easy to explore the whole city from here.

The MEININGER Rome Termini is already the second hotel of the MEININGER group in Italy. In December 2017, MEININGER opened a first hotel in Milan and a second MEININGER in Milan is going to open in late summer this year. "With the opening of the hotel in Rome, the MEININGER portfolio has been expanded by another important location. I am very happy that we now also operate a hotel in Italy's capital. Rome is a diverse city whose architecture, cultural and art history attracts tourists from all over the world." says Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels.

The expansion of the MEININGER Group is progressing steadily. "By the end of 2018, we will open five more hotels in Europe. In addition, there are 10 more hotels under development." Hannes Spanring continued.

MEININGER Hotels and investor LGIM Real Assets (Legal & General) have signed an agreement for a hotel in Glasgow. The hotel will be located on West George Street opposite Queen Street Train Station and will offer 160 rooms and 590 beds. The opening is scheduled for 2020.

Due to its strategic location in the centre of Glasgow, opposite to Queen Street Train Station which is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, many of the city's sights, museums and monuments are within walking distance from the hotel. Equally, there are numerous restaurants, pubs and venues nearby. The Gallery of Modern Art is just a 3-minute walk from the hotel and the Royal Concert Hall just 9 minutes.

Due to its proximity to the train station, the hotel is well connected to both local and long-distance destinations, with trains running to the north of Scotland and to Edinburgh, which can easily be reached within 40 minutes. The nearest underground station is also just 160 meters from the hotel.

The MEININGER Hotel will have 160 rooms and 590 beds, spread over 5 floors of the new building. The room types will range from classic double rooms through private multi-bed rooms to beds in a dorm room. The public areas such as reception, lobby, lounge, breakfast room and bar as well as a guest kitchen and game zone, which are all typical features of a MEININGER, will be located on the first floor of the building. At basement, ground and mezzanine levels the scheme will also create around 1400 sqm of new retail space.

The building was designed by the architectural practice NORR.

Derek Reid, Project Director for Architects NORR Consultants, stated "We are immensely proud to have assisted Legal + General and MEININGER Hotels in achieving not only this milestone, but also the recent milestone of securing Planning permission. Our design for the building seeks to balance an appropriate response to a strategic location within Glasgow City Centre Conservation Area with capturing the exciting dynamic of the MEININGER Hotel brand. We look forward to continuing our role on the project through to project completion and opening."

The hotel in Glasgow will be the second hotel for the MEININGER Group in the UK. MEININGER already operates a hotel in London since 2006. Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, is pleased about the new project: "Great Britain is a very important market for us and Glasgow as Scotland's largest city is the perfect location for another MEININGER hotel in the UK. The Glasgow hotel is an excellent addition to our portfolio, due to its prime location in the heart of the city centre."

The MEININGER Hotels continue to expand. This year another 6 hotels are going to open in Europe. Including Glasgow, a total of 15 projects are under development and further projects are being searched for. "The focus is still on Europe, but we are also looking for opportunities in North America and South Asia," says Hannes Spanring.

Craig Westmacott, Senior Fund Manager, LGIM Real Assets, said: "We are pleased to be working with MEININGER Hotels as they seek to expand their successful brand into the UK. This site is an excellent location for a new hotel and together with the redevelopment of Queen Street station will bring significant improvements to this key area of Glasgow city centre."
