The property is well connected to the public transport system. The next tram and metro station it's just a few minutes' walk away.

"Lumière"

The design of each MEININGER hotel is based on a specific theme. In this way a place of warm personality emerges where guests feel comfortable and willing to share their experiences. In Lyon the theme "Lumière" was inspired by the Lumière brothers, who lived in Lyon and who were pioneer contributors to the birth of film. A further inspiration was the Fête des Lumières which takes place once a year in Lyon since 1852. The theme will be realised by the architects Maidenberg Architecture who are responsible for the planning and implementation of the interior design.

Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, says: "We are very happy about this great new addition to our portfolio and about realizing it together with Foncière des Régions. Lyon is a popular travel destination, it has been voted as "Europe's Leading City Break Destination" at the World Travel Awards ceremony in 2016. Furthermore Lyon is France's second most popular business hub.

This means the city attracts city tourist and business traveller alike."

Dominique Ozanne, CEO Hotels, Foncière des Régions, says: "We are proud to have created this unprecedented partnership with one of the industry's most innovative brands and to have enabled MEININGER to speed up its pan-European development thanks to Foncière des Régions' renown and expertise."

On 1 April, the MEININGER Group will open its first hotel in Leipzig at the heart of the city, close to the main railway station. Located in the old town, it is the ideal starting point from which to explore the city. Countless shops, cafés and restaurants can be found in the near vicinity and numerous city sights are just a short walk away.

A modern hotel with a design and furnishings exuding local flair. "It was important to us for the city to become a part of the hotel and its personality. Particularly Leipzig's diverse modern art and cultural scene inspired the theme of "Art in Progress", which is now reflected in a colourful, entertaining manner in the hotel's public areas and rooms. A unique atmosphere has been created in which our guests will feel entirely at home," emphasises Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels.

Leipzig's culinary highlights also form part of the concept. "We will serve local specialities at the bar," says Maren Anders, Operations Manager at the hotel. "Among others, we will offer local gins of which three originate from Saxony and one is from the neighbouring state of Thuringia. The "Long Horn" gin is even from Leipzig itself. The traditional Leipzig beverage Kräuter Wilhelm can be enjoyed on the rocks or - similar to Pimms - combined with other ingredients to create trendy long drinks and cocktails." Tasty souvenirs such as Leipziger Lerche pastries are also available at the hotel and complete the range of local culinary offerings.

The hotel amenities guarantee the typical MEININGER standard. Beside the classic public areas such as the lobby, lounge, breakfast room and bar, there is also a games zone and guest kitchen in which MEININGER guests are able to prepare their own meals at any time. The flexible room concept of MEININGER Hotels means that a total of 404 beds will be available in the 126 rooms, which range from traditional double rooms to private rooms with multiple beds right up to dorm rooms with up to four beds. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the entire hotel.

The MEININGER hotel group announced the signing of an agreement for the third expansion phase of MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam City West. By spring 2018, the hotel will increase its current 1,177 beds to 1,585 beds.

In 2012, the MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam City West was the first MEININGER Hotel to open its doors in the Netherlands. Over the past four and a half years, the hotel has been continuously expanded and now comprises of 321 rooms and 1,177 beds.

Because of the hotel's excellent occupancy, the adjacent office building was converted during the first reconstruction phase to create space for new hotel rooms. The second reconstruction phase, which was successfully completed in December 2016, further increased room capacity, and the communal areas were also expanded and completely redesigned. The Dutch artist Van Gogh served as inspiration for the design. His powerful characteristic style gave the new lobby and bar a unique atmosphere and emphasises the vibrancy of these areas of the hotel.

Subject to the building permission, the final expansion phase will see the construction of an additional 102 rooms and 408 beds. The new rooms will be available from spring 2018.

Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels: "We are pleased to have successfully completed the first two expansions, and we are proud of the possibility of this third and final expansion. This step will almost certainly make the MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam City West the largest hotel in Amsterdam, but definitely the largest in our hotel group."

The MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam City West is in an excellent strategic location near Sloterdijk railway station, one of Amsterdam's most important transport hubs. The hotel is only a 5-minute Metro ride from the city centre and Schiphol Airport is only 10 minutes away.

On 01/01/2017, the Urban House Copenhagen officially became part of the MEININGER portfolio and the first hotel of the MEININGER group in Scandinavia.

vers le communiqué

On 01/01/2017, the Urban House Copenhagen officially became part of the MEININGER portfolio and the first hotel of the MEININGER group in Scandinavia. Hannes Spanring - CEO of MEININGER Hotels used the opportunity to see in the new year and celebrate the happy occasion with the hotel staff. "The atmosphere was great. It was nice to celebrate this moment with the team and the guests."

The hotel has 218 rooms, and since 2015 it has been operated by the Pandox group under the name of Urban House Copenhagen. The takeover of the hotel by MEININGER Hotels was signed in November last year. Over the next 12 months, the hotel will be gently renovated and gradually adjusted to the MEININGER standard.

The hotel integrates very well into the trendy and vibrant Vesterbro district and has become an integral and well-established part of it. It is one of the most fashionable districts in Copenhagen and a cultural melting pot; its many cafés, wine bars, restaurants, clubs and galleries make it particularly popular with young and creative people. It is in a superb location. The city centre is only a few minutes' walk away and the main railway station is just around the corner.

The 218 rooms extend over several old buildings, as do the spacious communal areas, which are used in many wonderful and unusual ways. Besides the typical lobby and lounge, guests can expect a guest kitchen, a pool room with bookshelves, a quiet room, a cinema room and a bar serving drinks as well as fresh burgers and sandwiches. The Urban Bar is also a well-known and popular meeting place with the locals. Those looking to explore the city by bike should visit the Bike Rental, which is also accommodated in one of the buildings. The owner makes bikes using recycled vintage parts. If you like your rental bike, you can buy it, or alternatively you can have a bike custom-made for you.

Like every MEININGER Hotel, at the Urban House you can choose between a classic double room, a private multi-bed room and a bed in a dormitory. "Over the next 12 months the furnishings will gradually be adapted to the MEININGER standard." says Hannes Spanring. "But it is important for us to retain the hotel's unique character and exceptional atmosphere. This is the first time that we are taking over a running hotel. This is an exciting challenge that we are looking forward to. We have the best starting conditions: for a smooth transition from Urban House to "urban traveller's home": a hotel whose concept has a lot in common with MEININGER's and a great team that is experienced and dedicated and that is now part of the MEININGER family."

MEININGER Hotels, Europe's leading hotel group, and private equity firm VIYM, which specialises in growth capital and hospitality investments across Russia, CIS and Europe, have today announced the signing of a management agreement. The resulting project will see Germany's MEININGER Hotels open their first ever hotel-hostel hybrid in Russia, as part of VIYM's Nikolskiye Ryady development in Saint Petersburg.

The overall cost of the Nikolskiye Ryady project, including both hotel properties - the MEININGER Hotel and Holiday Inn Express - is expected to be around USD 50 million.

The hotel-hostel hybrid will have 158 rooms, with a total area of 7,300 m2, allowing guests to enjoy the central location, reasonable prices and vibrant modern atmosphere that MEININGER Hotels are known for. The operator is already actively participating in the drafting of construction blueprints, to ensure that the new property is built in accordance with the highest international quality standards. Upon completion of construction, this will be the very first budget hotel managed by an international operator in Russia.

Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, says: "With our first hotel in Russia, MEININGER once again enters a new market. Saint Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia, and this diverse and interesting metropolis is continuously evolving. It is the second largest economic and financial centre in the country, one of Russia's largest scientific and educational centres, as well as an international centre for culture and tourism. I'm happy that MEININGER is becoming a part of this attractive city."

Commenting on the agreement, VIYM's co-founder Andrey Yakunin said: "We see that St Petersburg has again been voted the No 1 Destination in Europe. However we are also witnessing a significant shift in the structure of the demand, with low-budget accommodation steadily growing and out-performing other segments. Growth in international independent travellers, the international operated airport in St Petersburg and the increasingly active development of domestic tourism are just a few of the factors underlying this trend, while the approaching FIFA 2018 World Cup should also not be ignored. We at VIYM are continually seeking to introduce new hospitality products to Russia and work together with the leading European and international players for them to enter this vibrant and exciting, yet complicated, market."

The Nikolskiye Ryady project involves the restoration of the historic former Nikolsky Market site, located in the heart of Saint Petersburg. This 26,000 m2 site will be redeveloped into a multi-functional complex, comprising mid-range and affordable hotel properties: a 3-star hotel and a hotel-hostel hybrid, run by Holiday Inn Express and MEININGER Hotels, respectively. Both hotel properties will offer the ideal accommodation for city breaks, business trips, school trips, group tours, round-the-world trips and family excursions.

The design of each MEININGER hotel is based on a specific theme. The aim is to create a welcoming space, of a distinctive character, where guests feel comfortable and willing to share their experiences. In Saint Petersburg, the basis for the local connection was the market hall itself and its former usage as a market place and enamel factory. Complementing this are the various unique features of Saint Petersburg: the legendary white nights, the golden triangle and the very name 'Venice of the North' - which all together inspired the 'St Pete' theme. The theme will be executed by the Lundwall Architects, who are responsible for planning and implementing the interior design for the project.

Because of their central location, the Nikolskiye Ryady hotels will be within walking distance of some of Saint Petersburg's most notable cultural and historical attractions, such as the Troitskiy Cathedral, Saint Nicholas Naval Cathedral, Yusupov Palace and Mariinsky Theatre. The city centre can be reached in 10 minutes by car or 30 minutes by foot. The nearest underground station is a 15 minute walk away. Several minibus lines and tram stations are located in the immediate vicinity, on Sadovaya Street, which, as one of Saint Petersburg's major thoroughfares, also allows easy access to the hotels by car. Moreover, the underground station Teatralnaya, which is expected to open in 2020, will only be a 10 minute walk away from the hotels.

The MEININGER Group is to open its first hotel in Switzerland in the sustainable Zurich district of Greencity. MEININGER and the turnkey contractor Losinger Marazzi AG have signed a corresponding contract. The hotel will have some 170 rooms and about 600 beds. The hybrid concept, an innovation in Switzerland, envisages classical double rooms, private multi-bed rooms and shared multi-bed rooms. For Greencity, the hotel represents a major enrichment and a further vitalisation of the district.

The MEININGER Hotel will be constructed in the seven-storey Ingres building. This belongs to the cluster of office buildings marking the entrance to Greencity coming from the city centre. The Ingres design is by the prestigious Zurich architectural firm of Gigon/Guyer. Losinger Marazzi will submit the planning application for the building during the first half of 2017. The opening of the hotel is scheduled for the end of 2019.

The hotel will possess some 170 rooms together with about 600 beds. The mix corresponds to the hybrid concept, which MEININGER already successfully operates in various other cities in Europe. This combines the focus on different market segments with an international positioning and exceptional furnishings. This flexible mix of classical double rooms, private and shared multi-bed rooms will allow the hotel operator to cater to a wide spectrum of target groups, ranging from corporate guests, via families and individual travellers through to tourists and school groups. All the public spaces, such as the lobby, lounge, bar, breakfast room and terrace will be located on the ground floor of the building. Typical for MEININGER hotels are a game zone and a well-equipped guest kitchen, where customers will be able to prepare their own meals at any time, day or night.

Greencity ideal for the MEININGER concept
The location of Greencity is ideal for the concept of the new hotel. Up to 3,000 jobs will be created in the Greencity offices. There are also a large number of companies with international businesses located in the nearby Zurich South. The city centre touristic attractions are only a few minutes away by S-Bahn. An attractive recreational area is situated close by. For tourist groups travelling in Switzerland, Greencity is also an ideal stopover at the gateway to the hinterland of Switzerland with direct motorway access.

An enrichment for the city of Zurich’s flagship project
The hotel will represent a major enrichment for a Greencity, a district rapidly growing in height, and contribute to vitalising the district. According to Ulrich Blessing, Deputy Head of the Zurich Property Development Department at Losinger Marazzi AG: “We are aiming at a diverse mix of use in Greencity – and the hotel is a key element in this regard.” An urban space will be created in the new district comprising 731 apartments, offices, businesses, restaurants and public institutions, such as a primary school. Greencity is seen as a flagship project for the city of Zurich. The area has already twice been awarded the 2000-Watt-Area Certificate by the Energy City Sponsoring Association and has also committed itself to the principles of sustainability in relation to social variety and mobility. The district has been developed and realised by the turnkey contractor Losinger Marazzi AG.

A shared vision
The MEININGER Hotel Group and Losinger Marazzi AG are linked by a shared vision: the creation of future-oriented and liveable projects with sustainable ideas. Greencity thus gains an innovative partner that shares the ideas, values and goals of the 2000-Watt Society. Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, states: “We are pleased that the plans to open a hotel in Switzerland have firmed up with a hotel project in Zurich. Zurich is an interesting city which for many reasons attracts numerous tourists and is also the home for many renowned companies. The hotel will be an exceptional addition to our portfolio.”
