The European hotel group is investing in comprehensive renovations of three properties: one in Munich and two in Vienna, as part of over 10 larger-scale hotel refurbishments in 2024.

MEININGER Hotel Munich City Centre becomes MEININGER Hotel München Zentrum

Despite its new name, the MEININGER Hotel München Zentrum, situated directly on Landsbergerstraße, will maintain its prime location, ensuring it remains a versatile and convenient starting point for our guests. The famous Theresienwiese is within walking distance, as are the central bus station and the main railway station, and Munich city centre is just a few minutes away by public transport. After the extensive renovation, which started in June 2023, the hotel's design will combine the tranquillity and charm of the Bavarian countryside with the dynamism, diversity and modernity of the city of Munich. It's 94 rooms with 394 beds will use wooden and metallic elements, heralding a new era of MEININGER.

Ajit Menon, CEO of MEININGER Hotels: "Munich is an important location for us. Events such as the Oktoberfest, the European Championship 2024 and many major trade fairs are crowd-pullers, so it goes without saying that we want to maintain a strong presence in the Bavarian capital. That is why we attach great importance to fulfilling the MEINIGNER quality standard at our most central Munich location. The renovation is in line with our sustainability approach and the values we stand for as a company."

The renovated and renamed MEININGER Hotel München Zentrum is expected to welcome guests in summer 2024.

MEININGER Hotel Wien Downtown Sissi gets a new look

Not only in the Bavarian capital are significant renovation works planned: The European hotel group has extended the contract with landlord GalCap for the Hotel Wien Downtown Sissi by 20 years and is accordingly planning the renovation of the property.

The MEININGER Hotel Wien Downtown Sissi, with 102 rooms and 294 beds, is located in the heart of Vienna in the 2nd district. In 2024, it is set to receive a new look with extensive modernizations planned, while maintaining its central location. The renovations are primarily scheduled for public areas, but the rooms and corridors are also expected to benefit from the new design.

Even today, the elegance of Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary is visible in Vienna. The planned seven-figure investment in renovation aims to make the MEININGER Hotel Vienna Downtown Sissi shine in new splendor, preserving its old-world charm and attention to detail. At the same time, the facilities are intended to be upgraded to the standards of the new generation of MEININGER Hotels.

Marco Kohla, Managing Partner of GalCap, states: "We are very pleased to solidify the successful collaboration with MEININGER Hotels for another 20 years. Stable, long-term partnerships are the core of our business model. The concept of MEININGER Hotels fits excellently into our mixed-use property at this outstanding location."

After the contract extension until 2043, the MEININGER Hotel Wien Downtown Franz will also undergo renovation in 2024.

What would Sissi be without Franz? In addition to the refurbishment of the MEININGER Hotel Wien Downtown Sissi, the MEININGER Hotel Wien Downtown Franz is set to shine in new splendor in the coming year. Located in Leopoldstadt in the 2nd district of Vienna, the hotel has 131 rooms and 487 beds, a guest kitchen, a game zone, and other typical MEININGER amenities. Following the motto "imperial lodging," the hotel will undergo extensive modernization with a seven-figure investment. The innovations in public areas and rooms are expected to welcome guests in an imperial manner by the end of 2024.

The LLB Immo KAG, a subsidiary of Liechtensteinische Landesbank (Österreich) AG and established for many years in the real estate investment fund business, acquired the property for one of its environmentally certified UZ49 special funds in 2021. Michael Schoppe, Managing Director of LLB Immo KAG, says, "In the MEININGER Hotels group, we see a strong partner who shares our views on sustainable building use. High emphasis is placed on sustainability and material ecology in all measures. The declared goal here is also to obtain a climate declaration."

The modernization measures are set to begin in 2024. Alexander Hauer, responsible Asset Manager at LLB Immo KAG, expresses excitement about future collaboration and the outcome of the refurbishments.

Ajit Menon, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, on the renovations in Vienna, states: "Our two hotels in the Austrian capital are something special - not only because of their names Sissi & Franz. Being able to operate two such unique and centrally located properties in Vienna is extremely important to us. Therefore, we are very pleased that we were able to extend the leases of both for another 20 years. To prepare the properties for the next 20 years and bring them up to the current MEININGER standard, we have decided on comprehensive modernization works."

In addition to the Munich hotel and the two houses in Vienna, MEININGER Hotels has ambitious plans for renovations at several other properties across Europe in 2024. This refurbishment effort will encompass the second MEININGER Hotel in Munich, multiple houses in Berlin, as well as properties in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Rome, Salzburg, and Copenhagen.
