Away we go to Vienna. What would a train ride be without complications!? After a long wait at Frankfurt and Hanau train stations, we have an unexpected blessing and arrive at Vienna Central Station shortly before 10pm with an acceptable half hour delay.
After an entertaining taxi ride, which takes us on a mini city tour, we arrive at MEININGER Hotel Downtown Franz. Before falling into bed, we make a toast with a glass of red wine. Cheers Vienna, nice to be here!
Delightful view! The next morning Vienna greets us with sunshine, which unfortunately doesn’t last long. Noon calls for cafe hopping, thanks to the rain and snow…
…which isn’t such a bad thing with all the delicacies in Vienna. In Tian Bistro in Spittelberg, we warm ourselves up again with a Kaspressknödelsuppe (Austrian cheese dumpling soup) and Flammkuchen (Tarte Flambée).
Vienna by night. We see out the evening at an Italian restaurant around the corner from our hotel.
Sunday morning breakfast. One of the reasons why I like staying in hotels so much: in the morning, quickly slipping out of pyjamas and into jeans, in the breakfast room a lovingly arranged buffet is waiting with everything that a morning heart desires.
