When the air is filled with the aromas of sweet roasted almonds, pretzels, baked apples, gingerbread, mulled wine and bratwurst! When Christmas music is playing, and when everything is festively decorated, then it’s time to visit a London Christmas Market!
London Christmas Market 1: Winter Wonderland
One of the most charming Christmas markets in London is the “Winter Wonderland” located in Hyde Park. It is reachable within roughly 20 minutes walking distance from our hotel. It is 4 minutes when taking the Piccadilly Line from South Kensington to Hyde Park Corner Underground Station.
The “Hyde Park Winter Wonderland” opens on 21st November, closes on 5th January and is free to enter. However, tickets must be purchased to visit the Magical Ice Kingdom. It contains the largest attraction in the UK with real ice and snow – the Giant Wheel, a circus, the ice rink and the “Bar Ice”.
There are many festive stalls with accessories, clothing, jewelry and handmade gifts. You can also find restaurants and bars with a great selection of food and drink. Interestingly, there’s a place called the Famous Bavarian Village. Here you can find German food, beer and live bands in an authentic nice atmosphere. You also have the possibility to meet Santa and his elves in his grotto in Santa Land.
London Christmas Market 2: Southbank Centre
Another London Christmas market you can enter for free is the “Southbank Centre Winter Market”. It takes place from 8th November until 5th January and is situated along the riverbank all the way into Southbank Centre. The best way to get there is via tube from Gloucester Road or South Kensington to Embankment Underground Station. You can take the District or Circle Line with ease and it will get you there very quickly.
The market has many wooden chalets offering unique gifts. It also has German food and drinks. It has been called the “Real Food Christmas Market” and offers delicious traditional and non-traditional food.
