Tips for Salzburg: markets

Schrannenmarket

The Schrannenmarket is the best place for everybody who wants to discover Salzburg off the beaten tourist trails. For over 100 years over 180 farmers and peasants sell their regional products here. Fruits, fresh vegetables and homemade sausages are offered in huge amounts. We are sure that everybody finds something for his taste. Colourful paprika, delicious mushrooms, funny packed noodles and a lot of berries – this market is also a feast for the eyes. You get insights about the live in Salzburg, ad additionally learn some typical words. Do you know that Ribisel is the Austrian word for red currants? No wonder that the Schrannenmarkt is one of the most famous markets in Austria and it is very popular among locals and tourists. But you have to get up early in the morning. The market starts at 5 a.m.

Salzachgalerien

Another great market takes place every weekend in August and at the end of September: The Salzachgalerien! You can stroll around for hours at this great open air art basar. There are so many different things to discover: handmade uniques, pieces of sceneries done in tradional craftsmanship and a lot of bits and pieces. If you are hungry, try the different jams with a crêpe. We recommend the kiwi-banana jam – it is delicious.
