There are a few simple things you can do to be responsible while you’re away from home and traveling. Here are a few ideas and some of the ways MEININGER Hotels makes them easy during your stay.

#1 Room cleaning when you need it
In every MEININGER hotel, we offer a “room cleaning upon request” service for private rooms meaning that we clean your room when you tell us to while shared rooms and dorms are cleaned every day. More specifically, at the MEININGER Hotel Barcelona Gran Via, Catalan regulations require daily cleaning for all room types. When you stay with us, just let our team know when you’d like your room cleaned.
#2 Bring a refillable bottle or cup
Got a refillable water bottle or coffee cup? Bring it along and use it throughout your trip. At our hotels in Germany, RECUP reusable cups are also available upon request.

#3 Discover another side of the city
Want to go beyond the usual tourist spots? Ask our team about their favorite places nearby. They’ll be happy to point you toward neighborhoods, cafés, shops and other places worth discovering.
#4 See what’s within walking distance
Our hotels are a great starting point for exploring the city. Before heading out, check if your destination is close enough to walk. You might find a new neighborhood, café, shop or another favorite spot along the way.

#5 Get around by bike or public transportation
Going a little farther? A bike or public transportation can be an easy way to get around. Some MEININGER hotels work with local partners offering bike rentals or public transportation options. Ask reception what’s available at your hotel.
#6 Take what you’ll eat
At breakfast, start with what you think you’ll eat. You can always come back for more. Toward the end of breakfast service, we adjust how much food we put out. If something you’d like is missing, just ask our team and we’ll do our best to help.

#7 Switch off when you’re done
Not using the lights, TV or another device? Switch them off. Before heading out, take a quick look around your room and turn off anything you’re not using.
#8 Use only the water you need
A few simple habits can help you avoid using water you don’t need. Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth and keep showers as short as you’re comfortable with.

FAQs
Do you clean my room every day?
Only if you want us to. In private rooms we clean on request, so just tell the team when you'd like it done. Shared rooms and dorms are cleaned daily. The one exception is MEININGER Hotel Barcelona Gran Via, where Catalan rules mean every room type gets cleaned daily.
How do I ask for my room to be cleaned?
Just let our team know at reception when you'd like it, and we'll take care of it.
Can I refill my water bottle at the hotel?
Yes, bring your own refillable bottle or coffee cup and use it throughout your trip. If you're staying at one of our hotels in Germany, you can also ask for a RECUP reusable cup.
What's a RECUP cup?
It's a reusable cup you can use instead of a disposable one. Our hotels in Germany have them available on request, so just ask at reception.
Can the team recommend places beyond the main tourist spots?
Absolutely, that's one of their favourite questions. Ask about their go-to neighbourhoods, cafés and shops nearby, and you'll get tips you won't find in a guidebook.
Are MEININGER hotels within walking distance of the main sights?
Our hotels sit in central spots, so a lot is closer than you'd think. Before you order a taxi, check whether you can walk it. You'll usually spot a café or shop worth stopping at on the way.
Can I rent a bike at the hotel?
Some of our hotels work with local bike rental partners, and some can help with public transport options too. Ask reception what's available where you're staying.
What's the best way to get around the city?
For anything nearby, walking is hard to beat. For longer trips, a bike or public transport is usually the easiest option, and often the fastest in a busy city centre.
Can I go back for seconds at breakfast?
Of course. Start with what you think you'll eat and come back for more whenever you like. Towards the end of breakfast we put out smaller amounts, so if something's missing, just ask and we'll do our best.
What can I do in my room to waste less?
Small stuff adds up: switch off lights, the TV and anything else you're not using before you head out, turn off the tap while you brush your teeth, and keep showers as short as you're comfortable with.
