Best Vegan Cake and Dessert in Vienna

Where to Find Vegan Cake and Dessert in Vienna

Austria at first may not seem like the most vegan friendly country, being the land of wurst and schnitzel, but may actually surprise you with the range of vegan options available. This is especially noticeable in Vienna, which is chock-full of vegan and vegan friendly places to eat.
But if you’re specifically interested in following the Austrian tradition of afternoon Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake), or are just craving something sweet at any time of day, there are actually a surprising number of places around Vienna to indulge your sweet tooth. Here are the best places to find vegan cake and dessert in Vienna.

Fett + Zucker

This cute little place near to the Danube canal serves a good selection of vegan cakes and savoury snacks, as well as several gluten free options too. They of course offer soy milk for hot drinks too. The setting is small and intimate, the service is cheerful and helpful and the interior is bright and colourful but still tasteful.

Deli Bluem

Fully vegan and organic, everything at deli bluem is of very high quality and delicious. Beyond their interesting and unique brunch options, they serve some delightfully sweet treats, the most notable of which are the pancakes. They also make their own cashew milk which they offer with hot drinks for something a bit more interesting.

Hamerlingplatz 2, 1080 Vienna

More than just a café, this fully vegan eatery serves an excellent brunch buffet on Sundays as well as several changing daily lunch and dinner time offerings. Their extensive range of homemade cakes are to die for, and with hot drinks you can choose between soy and almond milk. The atmosphere inside is relaxed and definitely encourages relaxation!

Brass Monkey

This delightfully hipster café specialises in cupcakes, and always has a couple of vegan options. The peanut butter and jelly one is a mainstay and highly recommendable. They serve a nice range of teas by the pot too, and the location along Gumpendorferstrasse puts you in a nice spot for exploring the nearby Naschmarkt and surrounding shopping district of Mariahilf.

For hot drinks they offer both soy and oat milk.

Attached to an ethical shop with products from around the world, this vegetarian café marks its vegan options clearly, including the delightful banana empanadas served with fresh fruit, which are an excellent option for a slightly more substantial dessert.

Schwarzspanierstrasse 15, 1090 Vienna

Mostly offering bagels (with plenty of vegan options) and smaller snacks, this tiny little eatery also has a small selection of vegan cakes, brownies and cookies. There is a small extra charge for soya milk at Blueorange. Service is quick and friendly, but the atmosphere inside is unrushed and easygoing.

Alserbachstrasse 1, 1090 Vienna

For the best selection of non-dairy ice-cream that doesn’t just serve sorbet in Vienna, and perhaps all of Austria, head straight to Veganista. On a hot summer day, there will likely be a queue out the door, but the wait is definitely worth it. They offer a fantastic range of vegan ice creams (made with either soy, oat or rice milk) with the expected typical flavours but many more original and adventurous flavour combinations.
