Following the announcement of the project in 2024, the MEININGER Hotel Barcelona Fira Gran Via is now ready to welcome its first guests. The hotel, a former office building, spans over 6,000 square meters with 162 rooms and more than 500 beds and will open its doors on June 25, 2026. It will also offer 30 parking spaces.
The opening of the Barcelona hotel marks the beginning of MEININGER’s operations in Spain, a priority market within its Southern European expansion strategy.

A flexible concept for a new way of travelling
In true MEININGER style, the new property combines the comfort and service of a hotel with the flexibility and social atmosphere of a hostel, complemented by an attractive location and a versatile offering.
The property features exclusively private rooms, ranging from doubles to four-bed options, catering to a variety of guests, including business travellers, families, groups, and individual travellers. Shared spaces include a lounge area, three terraces, a bar, and a “heat & eat” zone for preparing or storing food.
In line with the company’s commitment to sustainability, the hotel is BREEAM certified, a global benchmark for sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, and operates entirely on renewable electricity from a local provider. Energy efficiency is also supported by modern insulation, solar panels, and water-saving measures throughout the property, including flow restrictors on taps and showers.
Strategic location in Fira Gran Via
True to the MEININGER motto “Step out and explore,” the hotel combines excellent accessibility with urban diversity and a rich cultural offering. Located directly opposite the Fira Gran Via, one of Europe’s leading exhibition and congress centers, the hotel offers direct access to international trade fairs and conferences held throughout the year.
The area also hosts cultural and large-scale events, while the iconic Camp Nou stadium is easily accessible. Barcelona city centre and El Prat Airport are both well connected, with the airport just 20 minutes away. The hotel is situated in one of Barcelona’s main economic and urban development hubs.

Barcelona as the beginning of a new growth phase
The MEININGER Hotel Barcelona Fira Gran Via is the company’s first opening after a three-year pause, following its most recent launches in 2023 in Venice, Kraków, and Cologne. With this project, MEININGER Hotels expands its portfolio to 37 properties.
The Barcelona opening signals the start of a new growth phase, with the Iberian Peninsula playing a key role in the company’s expansion strategy. A MEININGER hotel in Madrid is already planned for 2027.
Internationally, the company is planning additional openings in cities such as Edinburgh and Tel Aviv in 2026, Strasbourg in 2027, as well as Porto and Dublin in 2028.
