Alexanderplatz: The centre of East Berlin’s Mitte

The Television Tower in Alexanderplatz was created by the GDR to symbolise the strength of East Berlin. Today it is a landmark of the unified city and characterises the skyline of the exceptional metropolis. The MEININGER Berlin Alexanderplatz is located just a few minutes away by public transport. The Telespargel (literally: tele-asparagus) as it was known in the GDR, is also omnipresent in the rooms. The colourful, dynamic interior design of the lobby has an authentic big city feeling.

ARRIVAL / LOCATION

Berlin Alexanderplatz: Discover the neighborhood

MEININGER Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz is located in the neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg in the east part of the city nearby Berlin Alexanderplatz. Discover a charming area with plenty to see and do. Start your weekend at the Kollwitzplatz local farmers market in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The water tower around the corner from the Kollwitzplatz square, called the Wasserturm, is a historical landmark worth checking out. There are plenty of places to shop, take a drink or grab a bite nearby. Be sure to check out the bookshops as well. There are a number of parks to visit if you are feeling like relaxing near greenery or want to sweat out the journey- Ernst-Thälmann Park, Anton-Saefkow Park and Arnswalder Platz are all options, to name just a few. In addition, there is a charming and memorable street market in Mauerpark you can go to on Sundays. Take in the buskers, buy some vintage clothing or have some coffee and cake at a café nearby. In the Bernauerstrasse locality, the Berlin Wall memorial is worth a visit as well.

This hotel and neighborhood is well connected to the wider city of Berlin and our guests do not have any trouble commuting from U Senefelderplatz station, just seconds from the hotel entrance, to see some fantastic places in other areas. To the east lies the district of Friedrichshain which has an alternative, hipster vibe. There are some great night clubs and bars to visit in this area, if you are looking to party! Further beyond this district, there are some fascinating landmarks including Treptower Park which includes a Soviet War Memorial and observatory. Also worth visiting is the Stasi Museum which contains some fasicnating relics of the secret police including spying equipment and archival documents. Regardless of where you decide to go and visit, the neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg is well connected and will provide an unforgettable stay in Berlin.
