On 01/01/2017, the Urban House Copenhagen officially became part of the MEININGER portfolio and the first hotel of the MEININGER group in Scandinavia. Hannes Spanring - CEO of MEININGER Hotels used the opportunity to see in the new year and celebrate the happy occasion with the hotel staff. "The atmosphere was great. It was nice to celebrate this moment with the team and the guests."
The hotel has 218 rooms, and since 2015 it has been operated by the Pandox group under the name of Urban House Copenhagen. The takeover of the hotel by MEININGER Hotels was signed in November last year. Over the next 12 months, the hotel will be gently renovated and gradually adjusted to the MEININGER standard.
The hotel integrates very well into the trendy and vibrant Vesterbro district and has become an integral and well-established part of it. It is one of the most fashionable districts in Copenhagen and a cultural melting pot; its many cafés, wine bars, restaurants, clubs and galleries make it particularly popular with young and creative people. It is in a superb location. The city centre is only a few minutes' walk away and the main railway station is just around the corner.
The 218 rooms extend over several old buildings, as do the spacious communal areas, which are used in many wonderful and unusual ways. Besides the typical lobby and lounge, guests can expect a guest kitchen, a pool room with bookshelves, a quiet room, a cinema room and a bar serving drinks as well as fresh burgers and sandwiches. The Urban Bar is also a well-known and popular meeting place with the locals. Those looking to explore the city by bike should visit the Bike Rental, which is also accommodated in one of the buildings. The owner makes bikes using recycled vintage parts. If you like your rental bike, you can buy it, or alternatively you can have a bike custom-made for you.
Like every MEININGER Hotel, at the Urban House you can choose between a classic double room, a private multi-bed room and a bed in a dormitory. "Over the next 12 months the furnishings will gradually be adapted to the MEININGER standard." says Hannes Spanring. "But it is important for us to retain the hotel's unique character and exceptional atmosphere. This is the first time that we are taking over a running hotel. This is an exciting challenge that we are looking forward to. We have the best starting conditions: for a smooth transition from Urban House to "urban traveller's home": a hotel whose concept has a lot in common with MEININGER's and a great team that is experienced and dedicated and that is now part of the MEININGER family."
