MEININGER Hotels have opened a hotel in Milan on 18th of December, which is the first one of the hotel group in Italy. The MEININGER Milano Garibaldi offers 80 rooms and 268 beds and is located in the centre of the city on Strada Privata Calvino 11 close to the Garibaldi train station.

The existing building, which previously served as a hostel, was converted into a MEININGER hotel over the last 10 months. "I am delighted that in these few months we have managed to redesign the entire property in accordance with the MEININGER standards and be able to open it this year as a MEININGER hotel", says Hannes Spanring, CEO of MEININGER hotels.

As typical for MEININGER, the interior design of the hotel is based on the near surroundings of the building. Inspired by the Garibaldi station, as well as the local metro and tram lines, the theme "Urban Connectivity" was implemented holistically in the rooms and public areas. In the lobby of the MEININGER Milano Garibaldi, a lounge area was modelled after a tram wagon, in the breakfast room lamp cables run like overhead lines of a tram below the ceiling and the wall next to the entrance presents an oversized transport map of Milan. Here and there materials and colours remind of stations and public transport of the city. In the rooms elements of a wagon are picked up in the furniture. The beds are framed with yellow metal, a handrail serves as a clothes rail.

The room types of the <link _blank internal-link-new-window internal link in new>MEININGER Milano Garibaldi range from classic double rooms and private multi-bed rooms, through to a bed in a dormitory. All public spaces including the reception, lobby, lounge, breakfast room and bar as well as guest kitchen and games room, which are all typical features of a MEININGER, are located on the ground floor of the building. Hannes Spanring says "MEININGER is a hybrid product that combines essential elements of both, Hotel and Hostel and thereby attracts various types of guests alike".

Thanks to its location, the hotel is easily accessible by public transport or by car. The MEININGER is the perfect base to explore the city. Due to its excellent transport links, the historical centre of the city can be reached conveniently within 15 minutes.

The MEININGER Milano Garibaldi is already the second property of the hotel group that opened in December this year. On 1st December, the MEININGER Hotel Berlin East Side Gallery welcomed its first guests. "The opening of the MEININGER Milano Garibaldi is an important step for the MEININGER Group and an excellent addition to our portfolio. Italy is an important market for us. We will open two more properties here next year. One in Rome in March and one more in Milan in late summer next year", says Hannes Spanring. And more hotels are going to follow. Next year, MEININGER will open five more hotels throughout Europe additionally to the two openings in Italy.

MEININGER continues to expand. A total of 15 new hotels are already planned. Although the focus is on Europe, opportunities in North America and South Asia are being examined in the search of further projects. Currently the MEININGER Group operates 19 hotels in Europe with 2,792 rooms and 9,510 beds in total.
